Graphite packing is common sealing materials to the pyrolysis machine. The graphite packing is used at 2 positions: one position is the door of the pyrolysis reactor; the other position is the dynamic and static sealing part between the pyrolysis reactor and oil gas separator. The graphite packing need be added or replaced about 3 or 4 times per month. In this article, we use the following pictures and video link to show you how to replace graphite packing.
1. The graphite packing of the door of pyrolysis machine can be replaced like this:
Open the door, we can find there is a cycle groove on the door, filling with graphite packing. Take off the old graphite packing and put new graphite packing inside the groove. That is all.
2. The graphite packing of the dynamic and static sealing part can be added like this:
During the operation, if there is some liquid or gas leak from the dynamic and static sealing part, we need tighten the compression bolts properly (not too much), AND NOTE TO MAKE THE FLANGE OF COMPRESSION PLATE PARALLELS TO THE FLANGE OF GRAPHITE PACKING CHAMBER, SOMETIMES, THE UPPER BOLTS MAY BE LOOSER THAN THE BOTTOM BOLTS, DON’T MIND THAT, JUST MAKE THE 2 FLANGES ARE PARALLEL. In another words, the gaps between the flange of compression plate and the flange of graphite packing chamber are the same at any position. After tightening the bolts many times, the gap between the flange of compression plate and the flange of the graphite packing chamber is smaller and smaller. When the gap becomes too small, we need add more graphite packing like this:
2.1. Take out of the compression bolts and move the compression plate out of the chamber.
2.2. Prepare the proper graphite packing. The thickness of the graphite packing is 25 – 32 mm in general. The length is the internal perimeter of the graphite packing chamber. When cutting the graphite packing, please note to cut it in slanting direction.
2.3 Put the graphite packing inside the chamber. Note the connection part shall be compressed well.
2.4 Move the compression plate into the chamber. Tighten the bolts to compress the graphite packing well. When tightening the bolts, note to tighten the bolts in diagonal direction. So, the pressure is even to the graphite packing.

3. Sometimes, we need take off old graphite packing.
At first, we need take off the graphite packing chamber, through taking out of the bolts of the chamber. Then, take off all old graphite packing and add new ones into the chamber. After that, we need connect the graphite packing chamber with the outlet of reactor again. Note to replace the metal gasket between the corrugated compensators and graphite packing chamber.
